behind the shades

After high school, I spent about five years just figuring out life. I came to Regina in 2017 to pursue hairstyling - attending school at Regina’s own THE STYLE ACADEMY. After I received my diploma, I worked at a wonderful salon that prioritized advanced education and networking - which always kept me excited about continuous learning, pushing myself out of my comfort zone creatively and discovering my potential.

Fast forward to today. I’m in a salon space surrounded by hardworking stylists that are always making moves and reaching for the stars - I can’t express how important it is to surround yourselves with individuals that inspire you to be the best version of yourself.

WHEN DID YOUR HAIRSTYLING JOURNEY START? WHY DID YOU CHOOSE TO DO HAIR?

WHAT IS YOUR SIGNATURE WHEN IT COMES TO COLOURS, CUTS, OR ANY SERVICE THAT YOU OFFER?

My passion lies with creating rich, and luxurious natural-looking colors with depth, softness and effortless dimension while offering a luxury service. I want you to walk into the salon doors, sit back and enjoy your time of luxury service, a coffee or tea in hand, and a scalp massage with every service.

My focus is creating beautiful color and style with vegan and cruelty-free color and products. I think it is important to offer moments of self care to my clients that align with my values - creating beauty with conscience.

ARE THERE ANY CAREER ACHIEVEMENTS that YOU’RE PROUD OF?

Oh, absolutely!

Since graduating from THE STYLE ACADEMY in 2018, I’ve attended a countless number of advanced classes. Color, haircutting and styling classes.. you name it! Continuing learning is so important - whether it’s for refreshing your knowledge or learning something new.

I’ve taken part in local fashion shows and creative photo shoots in Regina as well - collaborating with other artists in the industry of beauty, fashion and photography.

Speaking of collaboration, I’ve also been featured in the December 2020 issue of Dreamingless UK magazine.

I’m also not only proud, but entirely grateful for the clientele I have grown over the past decade. I’m proud to know each and every one of them, and grateful that they put their trust in me each time they sit in my chair.

WHAT DO YOU WISH MORE PEOPLE KNEW ABOUT WHAT YOU DO?

Well, it’s as simple as this.

It’s not just about cutting and coloring a client’s hair - I also build friendships and relationships. Every client will shape my day and fill my day with purpose.

So basically, each client becomes an important part of my journey - not just in business, but in life.

WHAT ARE SOME ITEMS THAT YOU CANNOT LEAVE YOUR HOUSE WITHOUT?

I’m pretty ‘basic’, honestly.

I don’t leave my house without my breath mints, lip gloss and my phone.

I will mention, I cannot leave my house without taking a photo of both my dog and my cat - and I mean it. Every time I leave my house. Excessive? Absolutely. Necessary? Absolutely.

DESCRIBE YOUR PERFECT DAY OUTSIDE OF THE SALON.

The perfect day, hey?

No alarm, sleep until 10:00.

Throw on a pot of coffee - proceed to drink 3-4 cups in my favorite brass-knuckle coffee mug.

Get into my favorite matching lulu set.

Head to yoga or pilates.

Starbucks for a little treat afterward, obviously.

Go thrifting with my friends.

Head home and take the dog for a nice walk.

Have my husband take me for dinner.

Get home, light a candle with a warm vanilla scent and get into my finest Adam Sandler outfit.

Read a good horror or thriller book. The more anxiety-inducing the better.

Now THAT sounds like the most perfect day.

AND LASTLY, WHAT ARE FIVE RANDOM FACTS ABOUT YOURSELF?

  1. I have a pen in my purse that looks like a realistic fish. His name is Kevin. Everyone needs a purse pen, right?

  2. I don’t really do sweets. I’m a salty, savoury or spicy person.

  3. I avoid the sun at all costs. If it’s sunny out, I am in the shade wearing sleeves and a hat.

  4. My favorite animal in the whole entire world is a cow. If you get me talking about my love for cows, expect tears.

  5. I am terrified of sour cream. Thick dairy scares me.
